Govt Not Asking Public for ₹8 Crore to Save Nimisha Priya, MEA Confirms (Image Source: livehindustan)
Indian national Nimisha Priya is facing the death penalty in Yemen, and efforts are underway to save her. A cleric from Kerala recently tried to help by using his contacts in Yemen to mediate the situation. However, the family of the deceased, Talal Abdo Mehdi, has refused to forgive her. Talal’s brother even posted on social media, urging the Yemeni government to carry out the execution quickly, saying, “We cannot trade in our brother’s blood.
Meanwhile, a new claim has surfaced on social media involving Nimisha Priya. The claim was made from a Twitter account belonging to someone named Dr. AK Paul, who is described as a Christian preacher. A poster with the message “Save Nimisha Priya” has been circulated. It falsely claims that donations can be deposited into the Ministry of External Affairs’ account to save Nimisha Priya. "Donate directly to the Indian government's bank account to save Nimisha Priya," the tweet reads. We require 8.3 crore rupees.
Furthermore, the fraudulent post provides an account number, allegedly from the State Bank of India, claiming it belongs to the Ministry of External Affairs. The Ministry of External Affairs has now clarified the truth, appealing to the public not to fall for such scams. A fact check on X (formerly Twitter) confirmed that this is an attempt to extort money from people. Any social media request to give to a government account is fraudulent, the Ministry explained. The government has not made such a request, and the public does not need to make any donations.
